Secret Design Hotspots of Milan Design Week 2018
During the 2018 Salone del Mobile, several exclusive design venues opened in Milan. Space Encounters, an Amsterdam architecture studio, designed Bar Anne inside the Museo Diocesano di Milano, featuring a light installation by Children of the Light and furniture by Rick Tagelaar, VANTOT, and Jelle Mastenbroek. Open from April 17 to 21, the bar hosts talks with Frame Magazine. In Piazza Tricolore, Studiopepe art-directed Club Unseen, a members-only club with vintage and exclusive contemporary pieces, plus a food & beverage concept by a chef from Drink & Taste. Designer Samer Alameen opened his home-studio in Piazza Oberdan 3, showcasing his Khayzaran Chair and Pattern Interrupted collection alongside works by friends. The Subalterno1 collective launched Sendmethefuture, a project where 100 Italian designers received envelopes with prompts to create nonexistent objects, exhibited during the fair. Curators Stefano Maffei and Marcello Pirovano suggested themes like "Ossimorico" and "Autocostruito."
