Secret Arts Teachers Present Projects at Framer Framed Amsterdam

exhibition · 2026-05-13

The Secret Arts Teachers (SAT) initiative, led by the Amsterdam University of the Arts' lectorate of Art Education, will showcase works by three teachers at Framer Framed in Amsterdam from September 12 to 27, 2026. Jan T., a theater and rap teacher from the Netherlands, collaborated with Serbian teacher Milica S. to have students write raps about superpowers. His presentation includes a video of the making-of, a visual interpretation of the raps, a track battle tip with a beat by Tens, and a musical installation featuring tracks from his album 'codex ferox', inspired by exhibitions of rappers Duvel at the Groninger Museum and Sticks at Museum de Fundatie. Jelke de G., a visual arts teacher from Schiedam, had third-year gymnasium students design tiny houses on a 3D scale for a plot in the 'Bijzonder Verblijven' project, with rules on size and facilities but freedom in collaboration and materials. Saskia van H., a visual arts teacher in Amsterdam, presents 'Check My Art!', where students created A6-sized artworks on topics like fast fashion and rainbow love, displayed in a postcard carousel and sold for arguments instead of money. The project highlights the role of art teachers as community artists, emphasizing experimentation, playfulness, and student collaboration.
