Second Life Art 2006-2012: A Retrospective in Craft World

exhibition · 2026-04-27

The exhibition 'Second Life Art 2006-2012' has opened in the virtual world of Craft, on the Uqbar sim, showcasing art from Second Life's golden age. Organized by the Museo del Metaverso (founded in 2007 by Rosanna Galvani, known in-world as Roxelo Babenco) and Diabolus CARP (a Cybernetic Art Research Project founded in 2008 by Velazquez Bonetto and Josina Burges), the show presents works from both collections. Velazquez Bonetto designed a 'Museo Voxel' structure with three units: exhibition space, laboratory, and storage. The exhibition spans two floors and ten sections, including works from the Virtual Diversity Project (in collaboration with Koinup, a platform by Pierluigi Casolari), documentation of the performance group Second Front, and posters from major SL art events. The show covers the peak years of Second Life (2007-2008) and extends to 2012, when many artists continued working. The initiative aims to preserve and document SL art, which risks being lost as artists come and go and works are not conserved. The exhibition is conceived as the first chapter of a larger retrospective, with a second chapter planned. It remains open for several months.
