Second Edition of Italian Architecture Prize Launches with MAXXI and Triennale Milano
The second edition of the Italian Architecture Prize (Premio Italiano di Architettura) has been launched, jointly organized by MAXXI Museo nazionale delle arti del XXI secolo in Rome and Triennale Milano. The prize, established in 2019, is awarded annually across three categories: Best Building (completed between January 2018 and December 2020 by an Italian architect or practice), the T Young Claudio De Albertis Prize for emerging architects under 35 (with a €12,000 award for training or projects), and a Career Prize. The international jury exclusively selects the Career Prize winner, while advisors appointed by the two institutions nominate projects for the Best Building category. For the T Young Prize, architects can self-nominate by May 21, 2021, via triennale.org. The prize builds on previous initiatives: Triennale's Medaglia d'Oro all'Architettura Italiana and MAXXI's Young Architects Program. Carla De Albertis, President of the Claudio De Albertis Committee, emphasized supporting young Italian talent. In summer 2021, Triennale Milano will host an exhibition of finalist projects (June–August) and the award ceremony. Stefano Boeri, President of Triennale Milano, highlighted the prize's role in promoting innovative design as an agent of change. Giovanna Melandri, President of Fondazione MAXXI, recalled the first edition's winners—Renzo Piano (Career Prize), Francesca Torzo and Lucy Styles—and linked the prize to the New European Bauhaus initiative.
