Second Edition of Contemporanea – Rome Gallery Weekend Kicks Off in May

festival-fair · 2026-04-26

From May 10 to 12, 2024, 36 private galleries across Rome will open simultaneously for the second edition of Contemporanea – Rome Gallery Weekend. The event, inspired by similar initiatives in Berlin and Amsterdam, aims to map and promote the city's contemporary art scene. Participating galleries range from young spaces to established names like Gagosian, Galleria Continua, and Tornabuoni Art, as well as local venues such as ADA, Rolando Anselmi, and T293. The name recalls Achille Bonito Oliva's landmark 1973 exhibition "Contemporanea." A highlight is the video work "Mind And Body Body And Mind" by Salvatore Arancio, originally shown at the 57th Venice Biennale curated by Christine Macel, presented by Federica Schiavo Gallery in collaboration with real estate developer COIMA. The video, inspired by an online tutorial on using hypnosis to boost creativity, will be on view only during the weekend. The program includes guided tours and meetings with collectors, curators, and gallerists.
