Second Annual Governors Island Art Fair Opens September 5 with 150+ Artists

The Second Annual Governors Island Art Fair launches on September 5, 2009, running weekends through September 27. Over 150 international independent artists and galleries will present work across the island, utilizing a fifty-room army barracks and several other interior spaces. Organized by the arts group 4heads Collective, the event expands from last year's format to include gallery presentations alongside independent artists. The fair is accessible via free ferry rides from Manhattan and Brooklyn, with specific weekend schedules. An opening reception is scheduled for September 5 from 3pm to 6pm, and public hours are 11am to 6pm each weekend day. Live music, dance, and performance art will complement the visual art exhibitions. The event transforms historic military structures into temporary exhibition venues for contemporary art.
