Sébastien Reuzé's El Ruido Series Acquired by artpress at Approche Fair

market-auction · 2026-04-23

At the Approche art fair in Paris (November 8–10, 2019), artpress fictively acquired Sébastien Reuzé's photograph El Ruido 19 (1997–2018) from Meyer Zevil Art Projects for €2,500. The series comprises about fifty photographs, with negatives shot in 1997 during artist residencies near Valencia, Spain, capturing the fallas festival's daily firecracker explosions (masclettas). Reuzé developed the negatives only in 2018, first exploding a firecracker on the photosensitive paper to create accidental alterations. He then rephotographed the resulting image, blending the original firework trace with the explosion's mark. The work was presented alongside Reuzé's Colorblind Sands (2012–18) series, which saturates American road trip landscapes with unrealistic colors, and his 2017 Suns series, which floods images with yellow light. The acquisition was made by Aurélie Cavanna.
