Sebastiano Vilella's de Chirico graphic novel reissued by Oblomov Edizioni

Oblomov Edizioni has released a new edition of Sebastiano Vilella's graphic novel "De Chirico. Interno metafisico con biscotti," first published in 2010. The book blends biography and noir fiction, focusing on Giorgio de Chirico's life around World War I, including his move to Paris, his association with Guillaume Apollinaire, and his journey to Ferrara to enlist in the Italian army. Vilella uses a mystery framework, linking real events with invented murders connected to de Chirico's metaphysical paintings. The new edition features a color format, new sequences, and unpublished illustrations, produced in collaboration with the Fondazione Giorgio e Isa de Chirico. Vilella, a veteran comic artist since the 1980s with works published by Eureka, Frigidaire, Blue, QPress, Black Velvet, CoconinoPress, NPE, Voilier, Weirdbook, and Oblomov, cites de Chirico and his brother Alberto Savinio as key influences. He previously explored another artist in "Friedrich. Lo sguardo infinito." The graphic novel draws from de Chirico's autobiography "Memorie della mia vita" but prioritizes imaginative invention over documentary biography. The visual style evokes the suspended, symbolic atmosphere of metaphysical paintings, with a dominant green light. The book has 152 pages, costs €20, and is published by Oblomov Edizioni in Quartu Sant'Elena.
