Sebastian Scholz's 'ludo' Turns Vienna Gallery into Childhood Playroom

Global International presented Sebastian Scholz's exhibition 'ludo' at Gerlgasse 17 in Vienna from June 10 to June 24, 2026. Curated by Rainer Grillberger, Georg Holzmann, and Simon Walterer, the show transformed the gallery into a space evoking childhood play, featuring waggons, wooden structures, reflective surfaces, light, and drawings. The exhibition included works created this year and a wooden piece dated 1989–2026, leaving the span between these dates deliberately open. Curatorial text by Leonie Huber accompanied the exhibition, drawing on Johan Huizinga's 'Homo Ludens' (1938) to explore play as a fundamental social activity and its parallels with art's autonomy. Huber's text reflects on the rules of play and the tension between playfulness and meaning-making. The exhibition closed on June 24, but the lingering work—a memory dated 1989 to 2026—remains a poignant artifact.
