Sebastian Rivas Opera 'Aliados' Premieres at Festival Musica

festival-fair · 2026-04-24

The modern opera 'Aliados,' composed by Franco-Argentine artist Sebastian Rivas, made its debut on June 14, 2013, at Théâtre de Gennevilliers as part of Ircam's ManiFeste festival. This work portrays the 1998 encounter between Margaret Thatcher and Augusto Pinochet, who was under house arrest at the time, with allusions to the Falklands War. Directed by Antoine Gindt, the production includes live video elements from Philippe Béziat and blends classical music, national anthems, traditional tunes, and popular songs. Performers Nora Petrocenko (Thatcher) and Lionel Peintre (Pinochet) deliver their roles with a stoic demeanor. 'Aliados' is scheduled for performances at Festival Musica in Strasbourg on October 4-5, 2013, and at Teatro Palladium in Rome on October 11, 2013. Additionally, 'Written on Skin' will be revived at Opéra Comique from November 16-19.
