Sebastian Errazuriz proposes Notre-Dame space launch pad

Chilean artist and designer Sebastian Errazuriz posted a series of Instagram renderings showing a missile launch pad on the roof of Notre-Dame Cathedral, with a rocket the same height as the original spire. He calls it an act of creative exaggeration to mock architecture firms circling the cathedral's carcass with their own proposals. Errazuriz also stated he was tempted to submit a serious design but concluded the best restoration would be to leave the roof incomplete, open to the sky like the ruined monuments of Rome or Greece, embracing the new wound. Meanwhile, the French Senate approved a restoration decree requiring faithful reconstruction of the cathedral's pre-fire appearance by 2024, ahead of the Olympics, with no room for interpretation—a blow to the government's plan for an international architecture competition. The decree must still be debated with the National Assembly. Other notable proposals include Parisian studio NAB's greenhouse and beehive spire, Swedish Ulf Mejergren Architects' rooftop swimming pool, and Vincent Callebaut's energy-producing roof with an aquaponic farm.
