Seattle NFT Museum opens as first physical space dedicated to blockchain art

On January 14, 2022, the Seattle NFT Museum opened in the Belltown neighborhood, becoming the first museum exclusively focused on NFT art. Founded by Jennifer Wong and Peter Hamilton, the museum aims to create a community hub for NFT and blockchain innovation in Seattle. It displays digital artworks on high-resolution screens, with pieces loaned by artists or owners. The museum also addresses the environmental impact of blockchain technology by promoting sustainability discussions. The opening follows the explosive growth of NFTs after Beeple's "Everydays: The First 5000 Days" sold for over $69 million at Christie's in March 2021, which brought mainstream attention to the phenomenon. The museum seeks to bridge the digital-physical divide, emphasizing that physical space remains crucial for understanding and engaging with NFT art. It also launched a Call for Art inviting artists, curators, and gallerists to participate.
