Seattle Art Museum presents Kondō ceramic dynasty survey
The Seattle Art Museum has launched an exhibition titled The Kondō Family: Storytellers in Clay, showcasing 60 pieces created by four artists from three generations of the Kondō family. This retrospective, which highlights the work of living artist Kondō Takahiro, will be on display at the Seattle Asian Art Museum from July 15, 2026, to January 3, 2027. Aaron Rio, the Tateuchi Foundation Curator of Japanese and Korean Art at SAM, emphasized the family's century-long journey of technical skill and creative exploration. Featured in the exhibition are wheel-thrown vases adorned with plant and landscape designs, along with life-size porcelain self-portraits that illustrate the development of their artistic practice.
