SeatingGO: motorized chair for disabled visitors at Escher show in Milan
Designer Letizia Lionello, a student of Carlo Scarpa at IUAV, created the SeatingGO motorized armchair to allow disabled and elderly visitors to comfortably experience art in museums. The chair is currently available at the Escher exhibition at Palazzo Reale in Milan until January 22, thanks to a sponsor who donated six units to the city. Produced by the Bergamo-based company Tec.Meca, the compact vehicle moves at walking speed (under 1 km/h) and steers via joystick, with a 12-hour battery life. Designed for museums, it can also be used at art fairs. The project received the DfA Silver Quality Mark from Design for All for its ease of use and non-hospital-like appearance, emphasizing leisure and entertainment as essential aspects of quality of life.
