Seashore Trolley Museum Launches 86th Season with Special Events and New Exhibits
Seashore Trolley Museum, recognized as the world's first and largest electric railway museum, has commenced its 86th season. The museum opened on May 3, 2025, and will operate on weekends throughout May, expanding to Wednesday through Sunday schedules from June 1 until late October, with daily hours from 9:30 AM to 4:30 PM. Located in Maine, the institution features a heritage electric railroad that was part of the historic Atlantic Shore Line Railway, which operated from 1902 to 1927. General admission includes unlimited rides on trolleys that travel approximately 3.7 miles over 40 minutes. Visitors can explore outdoor displays, three carhouses housing trolleys, a restoration workshop, and various artifacts including subway cars, locomotives, buses, and a switching tower. The museum grounds include picnic areas and are pet-friendly. A new building now houses the Maine Central Model Railroad, an extensive HO-scale layout donated by the Beal Family of Jonesport, Maine; this exhibit is accessible on Thursdays and Fridays in May from 10 AM to 4 PM and is included with admission. Special events for the opening weekend included Maine Day on May 3, offering discounted entry for Maine residents at $2.07 and free admission for all children aged 16 and under, and Star Wars Day on May 4, providing free entry for those dressed as characters from the franchise. Additional May promotions include free admission for mothers on Mother's Day, Dress Like a Conductor Day for youth, and Military Appreciation Days on May 17, 24, and 25, sponsored by CSX, offering free entry to active military personnel and veterans. The museum's seasonal calendar features family-oriented events such as Dino Trolley in June and August, Moxie Day in July, Pumpkin Patch Trolley in September and October, Trolleyween, and Christmas Prelude Trolley Rides in December. Daniel Tiger from the PBS KIDS series will appear on July 26 and 27. Further details and advance ticket purchases are available on the museum's website.
