Sean Scully's 'Long Light' at Villa Panza: A Dialogue with Giuseppe Panza's Collection
At Villa e Collezione Panza in Varese, the FAI has launched a solo exhibition featuring Sean Scully, named 'Long Light,' which opened in April 2019. This exhibition delves into the connections between Scully's artistic vision and the collecting principles of Giuseppe Panza di Biumo. While Scully's pieces are not part of Panza's collection, archival letters indicate that Panza was invited to view Scully's work in 1980 and toured his studio in 1989, expressing interest in 'White Window' (1988). Curated by Anna Bernardini, the exhibition showcases Scully's site-specific installation 'Looking Outward,' comprising 27 glass windows, and highlights his early minimalist creations, underscoring his poetic interaction with the villa's architecture.
