Sea, Pop & Sun: Pop Art Hedonism on Porquerolles Island
The Fondation Carmignac presents 'Sea, Pop & Sun' at Villa Carmignac on Porquerolles Island from April 25 to November 1, 2026. Curated by Anna Karina Hofbauer and Dieter Buchhart, the exhibition explores Pop Art through the lens of hedonism, featuring nearly 100 works by David Hockney, Niki de Saint Phalle, Roy Lichtenstein, Andy Warhol, Olafur Eliasson, and others. A centerpiece is Théo Mercier's 'SeaClock', a 30-ton sand castle pierced with rebar, created in situ. The show includes seven sections each accompanied by a 1960s hit, from Cosima von Bonin's cartoon totems to Warhol's 'Sunset' series and Lichtenstein's 'Sunrise'. It highlights female artists like Marjorie Strider, Evelyne Axell, Sylvie Fleury, Diana Thater, Kiki Kogelnik, Judy Chicago, and Tshabalala Self. The exhibition draws from the Carmignac Collection and ends with a screening of Todd Haynes' 'I'm Not There' in the gardens.
