Sea Art Festival 2023 Explores Human-Water Relations in Busan
The Sea Art Festival 2023, themed Flickering Shores, Sea Imaginaries, is taking place at Ilgwang Beach in Busan, South Korea, marking its second year. This biennial public art showcase, which began in 1987, features over 30 artists and collectives exploring the intricate bond between humanity and water. Irini Papadimitriou, the artistic director, highlighted the importance of reevaluating our connection with the sea and the concept of sea capitalism. Busan is home to South Korea's largest seaport and ranks as the sixth-largest container port globally. Noteworthy installations include Robertina Šebjanic's Tidal Whispers: Busan's Oceanic Tales (2023) and STUDIO 1750's Aquatic Garden (2023). The festival continues until November 19.
