Scuola Politica Gibel: A New Political School 'Impregnated with Art' Launches in Palermo

institutional · 2026-05-04

Dario Nepoti, under 30, has founded the Scuola Politica Gibel in Palermo, a political school for under-35s (open to all) running from September 3-8, 2018. The five-day program addresses ecological change, art's role, digital revolution, resource distribution, and concepts of space and borders. The school aims to become a year-long program within three years. It launches with a workshop titled 'La consapevolezza dell’oggi per scegliere il domani.' The opening lecture, 'Catturare l’unicorno,' will be given by artist Luca Trevisani. Other participants include architect Ippolito Pestellini Laparelli of OMA/Rem Koolhaas, and Palermo's mayor Leoluca Orlando. The project is promoted by Studio Gibel and held at Palazzo Butera and Studio Gibel. Nepoti, also founder of Terraforma Festival and Flamingo Management, emphasizes that art is crucial for interpreting the future and that artists can help politics build new imaginaries. The school is inspired by Nepoti's experiences with artists like Francesco Simeti. Palermo was chosen as a Mediterranean hub addressing migration, pollution, and geopolitics. The school involves 22 teachers, experts, and artists.
