Scripts – a chronicle of incidents: Mechanical Drawing at Casa Elizalde, Barcelona

exhibition · 2026-05-05

Until May 28, 2017, Casa Elizalde in Barcelona hosts 'Scripts – a chronicle of incidents', curated by architect Eduard Cabay of the Catalan studio Appareil. The exhibition stems from Cabay's research during the Master in Advanced Architecture at the Institute for Advanced Architecture of Catalonia. It explores how drawing, a quintessentially human activity, transforms when executed by mechanical devices. The machines produce drawings that are not identical; irregularities and lack of homogeneity emerge, traits also found in human handiwork. This experiment reopens discussions on the replicability of art objects and the creative potential of technological devices.
