Scottish sitcom Two Doors Down returns for eighth season

The BBC has confirmed that Scottish sitcom Two Doors Down will return for an eighth season, following a Christmas special that revived the show after the death of co-writer Simon Carlyle. The last full season aired in November 2023, months before Carlyle's passing at age 48. Cast members believed the show was over until Carlyle's collaborator Gregor Sharp developed a one-off Christmas episode in December 2024. Sharp expressed excitement about reuniting the cast for new episodes. The new season will pick up where the Christmas special left off, with Beth (Arabella Weir) and Eric (Alex Norton) still seeking a quiet life amid chaos from neighbours Colin, Cathy, and Christine (Jonathan Watson, Doon Mackichan, Elaine C Smith). Additionally, the cast will perform three live shows at Glasgow's Hydro in September. BBC Scotland's head of commissioning Louise Thornton and BBC director of comedy Jon Petrie praised the show's return. Two Doors Down, set in suburban Glasgow, began as a one-off special in 2013 before its first series in 2016, known for focusing on trivial incidents.
