Scottish architect launches campaign to rebuild Glasgow School of Art's Mackintosh Building

Ruairidh Moir, a conservation architect from Scotland and the founder of BARD in Glasgow, has initiated a petition advocating for the reconstruction of the fire-affected Mackintosh Building at the Glasgow School of Art (GSA). This petition, available on 38 Degrees, calls for transferring ownership to an independent organization to ensure a 'faithful restoration,' with backing from both the Scottish and UK governments. It has garnered 5,406 signatures thus far, with a goal of reaching 100,000. GSA has stated it lacks the funds for the rebuild without outside assistance. Moir has criticized the GSA's management and emphasizes the need for an independent entity due to the board's shortcomings. The structure, created by Charles Rennie Mackintosh, endured fires in 2014 and 2018. Designer Thomas Heatherwick has expressed his support for the initiative, comparing it to the restoration of Notre-Dame.
