SCONFINA: A New Window Space for Contemporary Art Opens in Milan's Chinatown

exhibition · 2026-04-26

On April 13, 2024, a new art display space called SCONFINA opened at Via Aleardi 11 in Milan's Chinatown (Paolo Sarpi area). The 4x4 meter window space, founded by Rossana Ciocca and Helga Franza, presents 24/7 art interventions visible from the street. Ciocca, a gallerist for over 25 years in Milan, shifted focus to public art projects, while Franza founded Fondazione Arthur Cravan in 2004 and curates the Festival Volcanic Attitude. SCONFINA operates as both an urban display and a performative public program with 'sconfinamento' (border-crossing) actions. The inaugural project is Marta Dell'Angelo's sculptural installation 'Carichi Pendenti,' featuring fragmented nude female silhouettes. A studio visit is scheduled for May 12, and a workshop 'Siamo tutte Cariatidi' on June 6. Future projects include Domenico Antonio Mancini's work on housing occupation. The space aims to foster dialogue and relational engagement, rejecting passive acceptance of reality.
