cultural-heritage · 2026-05-17

Since 2021, the cultural welfare project Sciroppo di Teatro in Emilia Romagna has allowed pediatricians and family centers to prescribe theater to children aged 3-11, issuing a booklet of six vouchers for tickets at €3 each. Promoted by Ater Fondazione and conceived by Silvano Antonelli, the initiative involves over 260 pediatricians, 43 family centers, and 31 theaters across 30 municipalities in seven provinces. In 2026, a group pass was introduced for up to six people. The 2025 season saw 17,823 spectators (+16%), 6,197 voucher tickets, and a 64.32% average theater occupancy. Monitoring by BAM! Strategie Culturali found that 20% of the audience were new families. The project has expanded to Rome (third season in 2026) and Milan area, coordinated by Fondazione Comunità Milano at Teatro del Buratto and other venues. Rome's season runs until December 30, offering over 20 titles and 45 performances for ages 2-12, plus free workshops. An association has been formed to support replication and research.
