Scintillarte: disabled youth guide tours in Naples

cultural-heritage · 2026-04-27

Scintillarte is a cultural project in Naples where young people with disabilities serve as tour guides at two historic institutions: Pio Monte della Misericordia and the Tesoro di San Gennaro. The initiative is a collaboration between the Associazione La Scintilla Onlus and the museums, aiming to create inclusive spaces and sustainable tourism. After a year of training, participants Chiara, Davide, Martina, Roberto, Cristina, Ernesto, Giampaolo, Igor, and Toni lead visitors through the Real Cappella del Tesoro di San Gennaro in the Duomo and Caravaggio's masterpieces, supported by expert guides Fabio Tosa and Silvia Evangelista. Association president Vito Gagliardi emphasizes building bridges between disabled and non-disabled communities, breaking barriers and prejudice. The project is one of few sustainable tourism examples in Italy. Reservations are required at least five days in advance.
