Schwarz Collection Returns to Italy in Bologna Avant-Garde Show
From October 17, 2017, until February 11, 2018, Bologna's Palazzo Albergati presents 'Duchamp, Magritte, Dalì. I rivoluzionari del '900', showcasing more than 200 pieces from the Israel Museum. Curated by Adina Kamien-Kazhdan and David Rockefeller, this exhibition emphasizes Dada and Surrealism, with a significant focus on the Arturo Schwarz collection, which was donated to Israel after navigating Italy's bureaucratic challenges. Born in Alexandria, Egypt, in 1924, Schwarz's initial attempt to donate his collection to Milan was rejected, resulting in 500 works being sent to the Galleria d'Arte Moderna in Rome. Notable artworks include Duchamp's 'L.H.O.O.Q.' (1919/1964) and Magritte's 'Le Château des Pyrénées' (1959), linking Surrealism and Dada thematically.
