Schermi Urbani brings street art to closed shops in Spoleto
The project Schermi Urbani, conceived by Gianluca Marziani, director of Palazzo Collicola Arti Visive, has transformed twenty closed storefronts and newsstands in Spoleto's historic center into sites for street art. The initiative, supported by the municipal administration, aims to revitalize shuttered commercial spaces and reimagine the city's future. Artists Danilo Bucchi, Andrea Capanna, Mauro di Silvestre, Nicola Pucci, and Giuseppe Ripa created works displayed in two newsstands (Piazza Collicola, Piazza della Libertà), six windows of Palazzetto Ancaiani, and fifteen other locations on Corso Mazzini, Via del Mercato, Via Salara Vecchia, and Via Minervio. The artworks are mobile, allowing relocation if a shop reopens. Marziani described the project as a form of "evolved street art" that offers dreamlike, surprising images without commercial intent. The initiative follows a prior intervention by local artist Ob Queberry, who designed posters for the 60th edition of the Festival dei Due Mondi. Assessors Camilla Laureti and Antonio Cappelletti emphasized the project's role in giving new life to closed shops and engaging the community.
