Scaramouche Gallery Opens Milan Outpost with Nuvolo Solo Show
Scaramouche, a Manhattan gallery founded in 2009 by Daniele Ugolini, opens a new space in Milan on April 5, 2019, during miart art week. The gallery, named Scaramouche loves Aline, is located at Corso di Porta Ticinese 87 and is co-run with Federica Soldati. The inaugural exhibition, 'The Crucial Years,' is a solo show dedicated to Italian artist Giorgio Ascani (1926–2008), known as Nuvolo, featuring works from the 1950s and 1960s. Nuvolo, a former assistant to Alberto Burri, has not had a solo show in Milan for over 60 years. Ugolini, who previously ran Scaramouche in New York's Lower East Side for seven years, aims to bring a 'New York method' to Milan, focusing on international connections and forward-looking programming. The gallery's name references the character Scaramouche from a 1960s TV series and Queen's 'Bohemian Rhapsody.' Ugolini's first New York venture was a temporary space in Chelsea in 1999, where he mounted a well-received Alighiero Boetti show reviewed by the New York Times.
