Scaramouche Gallery Drives Urban Regeneration in Milan's Scalo Romana District

exhibition · 2026-04-21

Scaramouche Gallery has established its third location in Milan's Scalo Romana district, contributing to the area's urban regeneration alongside cultural institutions like Fondazione Prada and Fondazione ICA. The gallery opened in late 2024 in this former agro-industrial zone south of Milan, now experiencing rapid revitalization. Founder Daniele Ugolini has consistently chosen peripheral neighborhoods for his galleries, beginning with Chelsea in 1999 and later the Lower East Side in 2009. The Milan space operates near the 2026 Winter Olympics Village, collaborating with local venues Lubna Bar and Magma Eventi. Inaugural programming featured American artist James Brown (1981-1986), followed by exhibitions of Luigi Carboni and Mirko Basaldella. The recent group show 'Sharing the Flame' included works by Lucio Fontana, Barbara Kruger, Yayoi Kusama, Roy Lichtenstein, Anselm Kiefer, Mario Ceroli, Cy Twombly, and Stephan Balkenhol. Future exhibitions will present solo shows by Nino Mustica, Nedda Guidi, and Costantino Nivola, expanding international collaborations. The gallery focuses on postwar and American artists while maintaining an independent programming vision.
