SCANNER festival returns to Rome for sixth edition

The SCANNER festival, dedicated to independent publishing, returns to Rome for its sixth edition from July 14 to 16, 2017. Curated by Maurizio Ceccato in collaboration with IFIX – Scripta Manent, Dude Magazine, and Monk, the three-day event will be held at Monk Club, a large space typically used for concerts. Ceccato, who invented the festival from scratch after touring Europe, emphasizes the event's cultural depth over a mere marketplace. The festival focuses on the Italian independent publishing scene, which Ceccato describes as high-quality and fervent but lacking support due to excessive attention to foreign productions. New this year are talks featuring creators discussing their work, roundtables with independent bookstores and young music labels, video projections revealing the behind-the-scenes of independent magazines, films on comic history, and an exhibition dedicated to Rome-based illustrators.
