SCAF 2024: Crossing Borders in Transylvania

The Sibiu Contemporary Art Festival (SCAF) is currently underway in Sibiu, Romania, and will continue until January 10, 2025. Themed 'Crossing Borders,' this fifth edition is hosted at various locations, including the Museum of Contemporary Art, the Ursuline Monastery, and the Brukenthal Palace. Artists from over ten countries are participating, with Cuba making its debut. A notable feature is the Intact Cultural Foundation's exhibition at the Ursuline Monastery, which includes three rooms: one showcasing works from Cluj School artists such as Dana Fabini and Radu Pulbere; another dedicated to Cristian Opriș; and a third displaying Florin Ștefan's 2014 painting 'The Sleep.' Opriș's 'Dezastrele Războiului 2024' engages with Goya's etchings, while Ștefan's 'Dublu Parcus' reflects on a fanfare orchestra he encountered in southern Romania.
