artist · 2026-04-27

Swiss land artist Saype has unveiled his latest ephemeral artwork, 'Une Grande Dame,' on the rocky pastures of Pavillon at an altitude of approximately 2,300 meters near Mont Blanc. The piece depicts an elderly woman holding hands with a young girl who points toward the mountain peaks, symbolizing intergenerational bonds and the transfer of environmental responsibility. Created using biodegradable materials, the work spans about 2,500 square meters and will naturally disappear within weeks as vegetation reclaims the site. It is best viewed from the cable car. Saype, known for his ecological activism, previously created 'EmbracingVenice' for Earth Day 2022, a floating installation on a grass-covered barge in Venice featuring two arms clasped in mutual trust.
