Saype's monumental land art arrives in Northern Ireland
Franco-Swiss artist Saype has created a new land art piece in Belfast, Northern Ireland, as part of his ongoing Beyond Walls series. The work, painted on the grass of Stormont Park in front of the national parliament building, depicts four arms forming a human chain to symbolize trust and mutual aid. It was created for the Belfast Photo Festival, which runs until June 30. Saype used only eco-friendly paints made from charcoal, chalk, and water. The Beyond Walls project began in 2019 at the Eiffel Tower in Paris and aims to create a distributed artwork connecting all five continents. Previous locations include New York, Geneva, Dubai, Istanbul, Berlin, and Cape Town. The piece was recently presented in Venice for Earth Day.
