Sayo Mogi's 'SYNERGY': Berlin Fashion Graduate Blends Ceramics and Loden

Japanese-international designer Sayo Mogi presented her graduate collection 'SYNERGY – was wir suchen finden wir unterwegs -' at ZK/U (Zentrum für Kunst und Urbanistik) in Berlin as part of the seefashion26 showcase. The collection explores the fusion of opposing elements, combining hand-moulded ceramic shards with traditional heavy Loden trousers and weaving raw stones into jacket pockets. Mogi, who moved to Berlin alone at age 19, cites her multicultural upbringing and her father's filmmaking work, particularly the movie 'Vagabunden Karawane', as influences on her narrative and conceptual design approach. She emphasizes sustainability through craftsmanship, longevity, and mindful production, aiming to evoke a bittersweet nostalgia in viewers. The show featured artist collaborations with @sophia_engel and @zoelinea, and was supported by the Economic Development Office of Berlin's Mitte District Council in cooperation with PLATTE.Berlin. Mogi describes her creative identity as resembling raspberry-coconut ice cream: fresh, unexpected, and layered.
