Saul Anton to Discuss Lee Friedlander's 'The Little Screens' at Cabinet
On Wednesday, September 23, 2015, from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM, Cabinet in Brooklyn will present the New York debut of 'Lee Friedlander: The Little Screens,' authored by Saul Anton, part of Afterall's One Work series. The evening will include a discussion led by Anton, followed by a Q&A session and refreshments. Originally published in Harper's Bazaar in 1963 with commentary from Walker Evans, Friedlander's 'The Little Screens' showcases television sets in empty spaces. Although the series expanded from 1963 to 1969, it wasn't fully compiled until a 2001 exhibition at Fraenkel Gallery in San Francisco. Anton describes the work as functioning both as a collection and a cohesive photographic piece. Anton has contributed to Afterall, Artforum, Frieze, and Parkett, and wrote 'Warhol's Dream' (2007). He earned his doctorate from Princeton and has taught at various institutions. The event is free, and copies of the book will be available for purchase without prior reservation.
