architecture-design · 2026-04-27

The New Murabba Development Company, chaired by Crown Prince Mohammad bin Salman, has launched a massive urban project in northwest Riyadh as part of Saudi Vision 2030. The 19-square-kilometer development will include over 104,000 residential units, 9,000 hotel rooms, 980,000 square meters of retail, 1.4 million square meters of office space, a museum, a technology and design university, and an immersive theater. Its centerpiece is The Mukaab, a 400-meter cube clad in a modern reinterpretation of Najdi architectural style, claimed to be large enough to hold 20 Empire State Buildings. The structure will feature digital and holographic immersive experiences, a spiral-based tower, and spaces for commerce, culture, and living. The project aims to create a 15-minute city with green areas and pedestrian and cycling paths, with occupancy expected from 2030 onward.
