Saudi Arabia Pavilion at 2025 Venice Architecture Biennale
At the 19th International Architecture Exhibition of La Biennale di Venezia, the Saudi Arabia Pavilion, named 'The Um Slaim School: An Architecture of Connection,' is crafted by Syn Architects, comprising Sara Alissa and Nojoud Alsudairi, with Beatrice Leanza as curator. This pavilion features workshops, public discussions, and two publications, acting as a dynamic archive focused on Riyadh's historical center and the traditional mud architecture of Najd. It showcases cartographic representations of nine neighborhoods where Najdi architecture is disappearing, alongside video content, eco-poetry, and material experiments. Additionally, the pavilion includes the Um Slaim Lab in Riyadh, which presents the Shamalat Cultural Centre designed by Maha Malluh and Syn Architects, emphasizing architecture's role as a social practice for professionals from the Global South.
