Sassoferrato and Samorì: A Baroque-Contemporary Dialogue at Palazzo degli Scalzi

exhibition · 2026-04-27

The 71st Rassegna Internazionale d’Arte | Premio G. B. Salvi has kicked off at the Palazzo degli Scalzi in Sassoferrato, Ancona. The exhibition, titled SALVIFICA, showcases a dialogue between Nicola Samorì’s ten new works and ten previously unseen pieces by Giovanni Battista Salvi, also known as Il Sassoferrato. Curators Federica Facchini and Massimo Pulini highlight the shared interests of both artists in sacred themes and repetition. Salvi, a minimalist in the Baroque era, contrasts with Samorì's more unconventional style. Interestingly, Samorì's oils on onyx have an aged look compared to Salvi's canvases. The Premio G. B. Salvi, founded in 1951, ranks as Italy’s second oldest art award, following the Michetti Prize and the Venice Biennale.
