Saskia Olde Wolbers installs sound piece in Van Gogh's former Brixton home for Artangel commission
On May 3, 2014, Dutch artist Saskia Olde Wolbers will unveil her sound installation titled 'Yes, these Eyes are the Windows' at 87 Hackford Road in Brixton, London, which was once the residence of Vincent Van Gogh from 1873 to 1874. The house, which has remained vacant since 2012, was spared from demolition in the 1970s after a postman uncovered Van Gogh's time there. This self-guided audio journey, directed by Lu Kemp and featuring sound design by Elena Peña along with a soundtrack by Daniel Pemberton, guides attendees through the space. Olde Wolbers, who learned of the house's auction in 2012, was inspired to buy it after cycling by. The exhibition concludes on June 22, 2014, with future plans for a cultural center dedicated to Chinese artist residencies.
