Saša Stanišić's 'Herkunft' to be Adapted into Film by 2027
Saša Stanišić's award-winning autobiographical novel 'Herkunft' is being adapted into a feature film, set for release in 2027. Directed by Clara Zoë My-Linh von Arnim, the production began filming in April across North Rhine-Westphalia, Baden-Württemberg, and Croatia. The film is a co-production of UFA Fiction, LEONINE Studios, and ARD Degeto Film. The cast includes Slavko Popadić and Maro Lovrić as the protagonist Saša, Gordana Boban-Herović as his grandmother Kristina, and supporting roles by Bjarne Mädel, Anke Engelke, and Karoline Herfurth. The story follows Saša and his dementia-stricken grandmother on a road trip to her home village Oskoruša, exploring memories of Saša's flight from Višegrad to Germany and his life in a Heidelberg refugee shelter.
