Sari Series: Ten Years of Documenting India's Draping Traditions

In 2026, Malika Verma's Sari Series, a non-profit initiative by Border&Fall, will celebrate its tenth year with an expanding international presence. This anthology features eighty-nine videos showcasing sari draping techniques from fifteen regions of India, along with three short films. Verma, who spent nearly twenty years in India after growing up in Canada, initiated the series to make sari draping knowledge accessible to all. Influential works include Rta Kapur Chishti's 'Saris: Tradition and Beyond' and Chantal Boulanger's 1997 illustrated guide. The inaugural video stars Naga model Carol Humtsoe, presenting the Venukagundaram Drape from Andhra Pradesh. Verma highlights favorites like Boggili Possi, Yakshangana Kasi, and the Kotapad drape. Collaborating with textile brand Raw Mango, founded by Sanjay Garg, the series boasts over 11,000 posts under the hashtag #TheSariSeries, with plans for global activations.
