Three artists have been selected for the Chicago Artadia Awards 2023, each receiving an unrestricted $15,000 grant. SaraNoa Mark (b.1991, New York) works with carved stone tablets and wall graffiti to explore time and collective memory. Nyeema Morgan (b.1977, Philadelphia) combines text and visual sources to critique knowledge construction in popular culture. Julia Phillips (b.1985, Hamburg), who had a solo show at MoMA PS1 in 2018, uses functional objects as metaphors for social and psychological experiences. The awards are open to artists living in Cook County for at least two years. Other finalists included Bobbi Meier, Jacqueline Surdell, and Orkideh Torabi. Founded in 1999, Artadia has awarded over $6 million to more than 380 artists across seven US cities.
