From March 22 to April 21, 2013, Sarah Walker showcased her fourth solo exhibition at Pierogi Gallery, located at 177 North 9th Street in Brooklyn. The exhibition, named 'Planet X,' included nine small acrylic works on reverse-beveled wood panels and pieces from her 'Near Earth Objects' series. Walker's abstract creations challenge traditional views through intricate layering techniques, evoking ideas related to quantum fields and cellular processes. Utilizing acrylic paint, she constructs translucent layers that create a dynamic interplay between flatness and depth. Her work draws inspiration from historical figures like Al Held, particularly in the use of diagonal lines and shapes with dual pictorial identities. A standout piece, 'Volatile Compound' (2012), measures 20 by 22 inches, connecting themes of panel paintings and paper works. Walker's technique harmonizes controlled application with the organic behavior of paint, achieving a balance between complexity and visual clarity.
