Sarah Morris Exhibition at White Cube London Explores Power and Urban Systems
British-American artist Sarah Morris will present her exhibition 'Snow Leopards and Skyscrapers' at White Cube Mason's Yard in London from 11 March through 9 May 2026. In the second episode of the ArtReview Podcast, Morris discussed her practice with associate editor Jenny Wu, examining power structures through three selected works. Her artistic output spans more than three decades, producing vivid abstract paintings and 17 films that investigate global cities like New York, Los Angeles, Abu Dhabi, and Rio. Morris's first film 'Midtown,' shot during a single day in 1998, captures Manhattan's corporate architecture and will be featured in the upcoming exhibition. She referenced the 1989 Whitney Museum exhibition 'Image World: Art and Media Culture,' curated by Lisa Phillips and Marvin Heiferman, which included artists like Barbara Kruger, Jenny Holzer, and Cindy Sherman. Morris also mentioned Slavoj Žižek's 2014 book 'Žižek's Jokes: Did You Hear the One about Hegel and Negation?' which analyzes humor's political functions. The podcast episode explores how Morris visualizes the circulation of power, capital, and culture through urban systems. New ArtReview Podcast episodes are released every fortnight on Spotify and YouTube.
