Sarah Lucas Monumental Bronze Gold Cup Maradona to Auction at Bonhams London with £300,000-400,000 Estimate
For the first time, a significant bronze sculpture by British artist Sarah Lucas will be available for auction. Titled Gold Cup Maradona, the piece is estimated to fetch between £300,000 and £400,000. This artwork is one of three editions, plus an artist's proof. One of the proofs was previously showcased in Lucas's solo exhibition, I SCREAM DADDIO, at the British Pavilion during the 56th Venice International Art Biennale in 2015. The auction is set for March 5th at Bonhams' 20th and 21st Century Art Evening auction in London. Marina Ruiz Colomer, the Head of Bonhams Post-War & Contemporary Art department, emphasized that Lucas's work delves into themes of eroticism and humor, akin to her renowned nylon sculptures. Lucas rose to fame as part of the Young British Artists movement in the late 1980s and early 1990s. The event will occur at Bonhams New Bond Street.
