Sarah Jérôme's 'Lux Æterna' at Galerie Sabine Vazieux
Sarah Jérôme presents new ceramics and paintings at Galerie Sabine Vazieux in Paris until July 16, 2022. The exhibition, titled 'Lux Æterna', marks a clear evolution in her work, blending painting, ceramics, and contemporary dance. While recurring motifs like fragmented bodies appear in earlier pieces such as 'Surrender' (2016) and 'Solace' (2019), new works introduce fresh elements. The ceramic 'Blanditia' features a feminine head with a plant growing inside the skull, replacing the brain. Paintings like 'Sisters' emphasize a sanguine red. Male figures, previously rare, appear in 'The Last Embrace' series as anonymous, back-viewed figures symbolizing unconditional love. In 'Où subsiste encore ton écho', the man is reduced to a hand on a woman's breast, ambiguous as both lover and disruptor, inspired by Pina Bausch's harassed dancer. The 'Éveil' series depicts a nude female figure at the edge of a forest, hesitating to enter—a metaphor for the unknown, replacing earlier 'women mountains'. Richard Leydier wrote the preface for the accompanying book published by Éditions Lord Byron.
