Sarah Burton appointed creative director of Givenchy, Haider Ackermann to Tom Ford

other · 2026-04-26

Sarah Burton has been named creative director of French maison Givenchy. Burton spent her entire career alongside Lee Alexander McQueen, who was Givenchy's creative director from 1996 until his death in 2010. She succeeded McQueen at his own label after his suicide, leading it until last year. Her appointment is seen as a return to the house where McQueen created iconic moments, such as the Spring/Summer 1999 show where model Shalom Harlow was sprayed with paint by robots. Separately, Haider Ackermann has been appointed creative director of Tom Ford, succeeding Peter Hawkings. Ackermann, born in Bogotá and adopted by a French family, will oversee all Tom Ford fashion, accessories, and eyewear from Paris. Other recent fashion appointments include Clare Waight Keller at Uniqlo and Zac Posen at Gap.
