Sara Raza Named Artistic Director and Chief Curator of Tashkent's Centre for Contemporary Art
Sara Raza has been appointed as the artistic director and chief curator for the Centre for Contemporary Art (CCA) in Tashkent, which is set to open its doors in September 2025. The CCA will be housed in a renovated tram depot from 1912 and is a project of the Uzbekistan Art and Culture Development Foundation. It aims to become a global hub for the arts, offering residencies, exhibitions, and educational programs. Gayane Umerova, the chairperson of ACDF, praised Raza for her deep insights and global expertise in contemporary art. Raza brings two decades of experience, focusing on postcolonial and post-Soviet art, and authored 'Punk Orienta/ism: The Art of Rebellion' (2022). She has also curated for prestigious venues like the Guggenheim and Tate Modern.
