Sara Leghissa's Rettilario performance at Milan's Spazio Serra

artist · 2026-04-27

On April 14, 2022, at 5 PM, artist Sara Leghissa staged Rettilario at Spazio Serra, a venue inside Lancetti railway station in a Milan suburb. The performance, previously presented at Festival Parallèle in Marseille, invited participants to wear headphones and listen to a foley audio track of station sounds before being locked inside a glass enclosure. Leghissa joined them, using a microphone to amplify her footsteps and mimic passersby's gaits, turning the space into a pseudo-natural terrarium. The work explored gaze, isolation, and movement, drawing on the duo Strasse's earlier station investigations. Participants were released to reclaim the station, the experience lingering as a reflection on how essence ties to walking. The performance was part of FOG 2022 at Triennale Milano.
