Sara Enrico Wins Menabrea Art Prize with Hitchcock-Inspired Label
Sara Enrico has won the seventh edition of the Menabrea Art Prize, a competition organized by the Menabrea brewery in collaboration with Untitled Association. The prize, inspired by Alfred Hitchcock's concept of the MacGuffin, invited artists to create a label for Menabrea beer bottles. Enrico's winning design draws from Gustave Flaubert's novel Madame Bovary, depicting a glove as the MacGuffin—an object that shifts from seduction to defiance in the story. The jury, chaired by curator Edoardo Bonaspetti and including artist Francesco Simeti, collector Mauro De Iorio, gallerist Emanuel Layr, Menabrea press officer Paola Maina, and Untitled Association president Danilo Ruggiero, selected Enrico's proposal among those of finalists Gaia Di Lorenzo, Alessandro Di Pietro, Andrea Polichetti, and Marta Ravasi. Enrico receives a cash prize and the opportunity to produce an artist's book or edition with CURA.BOOKS and Untitled Association. Sara Enrico (born 1979 in Biella) studied decoration and restoration of ancient paintings, completed the Advanced Course in Visual Arts at the Fondazione Ratti in Como, and was a co-winner of the New York Prize 2017–2018 for emerging Italian artists. She co-founded Laboratorio del Dubbio (2016) and was a member of Progetto Diogene (2008–2012). Her works have been exhibited in museums, foundations, and independent spaces. The Menabrea brewery, founded in Biella in 1874, has supported contemporary art through this prize for seven years.
